Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a game in the Super Smash Bros. series of crossover party fighting games for the Nintendo Switch. It was first first announced with a teaser trailer featuring Inklings at the end of a Nintendo Direct on 8 mars 2018 before being fully revealed at E3 2018. It is notable for featuring the return of every playable fighter from all prior games in the series as well as many new ones, including Inkling. The game was released worldwide on 7 décembre 2018 and is the best-selling fighting game of all time and the third best-selling game on the Nintendo Switch, with 34.22 million copies sold.[1]
Splatoon series representation
Mii Fighters can wear custom outfits based on Splatoon characters. The Inkling costume returns from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, appearing as the default orange female or blue male Inklings from Splatoon depending on gender, with the outfit section being exclusive to Mii Gunners and wielding the Splattershot. The standalone green Inkling Squid hat also returns. Additionally, a Splatoon 2 costume debuts, appearing as the default pink female or green male Inklings from Splatoon 2 depending on gender. Again, the outfit section is exclusive to Mii Gunners and they wield the Splatoon 2-design Splattershot.
Additionally, some paid DLC costumes were sold separately. Costumes based on Callie and Marie were released on 30 juin 2020 and allow Mii Fighters to dress as the Squid Sisters' normal outfits. The Callie outfit is exclusive to Mii Brawlers and the Marie outfit is exclusive to Mii Gunners, wielding the Hero Shot. On 19 octobre 2021, an Octoling wig (wearing the Octoleet Goggles) and a Judd hat were also released.
The Squid Sisters also appear as an Assist Trophy, an item that helps the player defeat opponents. Upon being summoned, they set up a dance stage and the camera slowly zooms in as they perform a song, restricting the playable area. One playable stage from Splatoon, Moray Towers, is also a stage in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. In similar fashion to its original appearance, it is constructed mostly of ramps and features Judd and Li'l Judd in the background, judging the winning fighters. It includes many original and remixed versions of Splatoon series music that play while players are fighting on the stage. If a song from a Splatfest is playing, the stage will turn into a nighttime setting, though the track layout does not change.

Various Splatoon series characters appear as spirits, characters that can be applied to a fighter to power that fighter up by raising their stats or giving them special abilities. The following is a list of the spirits that depict Splatoon characters.

Inkling fighters

The Inkling appears as a newcomer fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. They are described on the Super Smash Bros. Blog as follows: "Attacks with a variety of weapons. Covering opponents with ink leads to more and more damage—plus these Inklings are really fashionable!"[2] They utilize the Splattershot, Splat Roller, Splat Bomb, Inkbrush, Blaster, and Slosher for various attacks in their moveset. Inkling switches to squid form while dashing and spot-dodging, and utilizes it offensively in their pummel, throws, and up special (the Super Jump).
Although the costumes are designed according to Splatoon's available gear and character customization options, several of them display oddities:
- The costumes based on the Inkling Boy and Agent 3 both have blue eyes, but Agent 3's are significantly more vibrant. Excluding the blue eyes with colored pupils added in Splatoon 3, only one variation of blue eyes exists.
- The lime and purple Inkling costumes have purple eyes, and the turquoise costume has teal eyes. These eye colors were only added in Splatoon 2.
- The indigo Inkling has matching indigo eyes. To this day, no Splatoon game features this hue.

- Costume 1
The default Inkling fighter, identical in appearance to the Inkling Girl amiibo. She is a light-skinned girl with orange ink, tentacles and eyes. She wears the Fake Contacts, White Tee and Pink Trainers.
- Costume 2
The second costume available to players, identical in appearance to the Inkling Boy amiibo. He is a light-skinned boy with blue ink, tentacles and eyes. He wears the Fake Contacts, Zink Layered LS and Purple Hi-Horses.
- Costume 3
The third costume available to players, greatly resembling Agent 3. She is a light-skinned girl with yellow ink and tentacles as well as blue eyes. She wears the Hero Headset, Hero Jacket and Hero Runners.
- Costume 4
The fourth costume available to players. He is a dark-skinned boy with lime ink and tentacles as well as purple eyes. He wears the Skull Bandana, Armor Jacket Replica and Moto Boots.
- Costume 5
The fifth costume available to players. She is a dark-skinned girl with pink ink, tentacles and eyes. She wears the Takoroka Mesh, Black Squideye and White Kicks.
- Costume 6
The sixth costume available to players. He is a light-skinned boy with turquoise ink, tentacles and eyes. He wears the Black Arrowbands, Baby-Jelly Shirt and Blue Slip-Ons.
- Costume 7
The seventh costume available to players. She is a light-skinned girl with purple ink, tentacles and eyes. She wears the Squid Hairclip, School Uniform A and School Shoes + Hi Socks.
- Costume 8
The eighth costume available to players. He is a light-skinned boy with indigo ink, tentacles and eyes. He wears the Skate Helmet, Octo Tee and Octoleet Boots.
